FSADB Update

In January 2024 FSADB Inc., said goodbye to a beloved and long service member Sister Cynthia Gibbs.  She played a significant role as assistant treasurer.  Cynthia was committed to service and personally supported a full scholarship for a UB student and she was a regular and generous contributor to the Soup Kitchen..  In honor of Cynthia, FSADB assumed the responsibility for the UB student’s tuition through graduation (expected 2025).

On Good Friday, 2024 a very successful fish fry event was held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church in Brooklyn.  This event was followed by the 34th annual Dinner Dance at Antun’s Catering on June 9th. Belize’s Ambassador to Taiwan, H.E. Candice Pitts was the guest speaker.  She  shared her personal and riveting story of her  financial struggle and journey to achieve her college education in Belize.  Her story resonated with the purpose of FSADB’s efforts to support education.  Perseverance, hard work, commitment and generous sponsorship paved her way to her accomplishments and today she holds several Master degrees with honors and a doctorate from Howard University.

Honoree Wayne Moody, a wholistic life coach was recognized for his dedication and services as a life coach to the students of ACC. The second honoree Vernon and Francis Wilson were recognized for their voluntary service within the Diocese of Belize which included the construction and establishment of Holy Cross Anglican Primary School in San Pedro.  We thank the Holy Cross Organization for their generous donation and sponsorship to Scholarship program.

For the school year 2024-2025 FSADB Inc., successfully funded through sponsorship a total of twenty students at the Anglican Cathedral College in Belize City.  The students we vetted and approved based on grades, principal’s recommendation and needs.  With the generous support of donors, ten new first form student recipients received new laptops, uniforms and books.  In support of the students continuing education, a mentorship program was also established. A large screen TV was donated to be used for Zoom meetings with the guidance counsellor as well as to facilitate meetings with sponsors.  In addition, the Vice Principal’s office was provided with a printer and laptop both of which were donated by FSADB.

The year’s fund raising events culminated in November with the play “Royal Kruffy”. This was a partnership between playwright Ray Gongora, MBE of the Optimist Club and special guest Blakka (Jamaican Comedian).
